What inspired this track:
"My track London Wake Up is for everyone who loves their city and wants it to retain its culture, heritage, and the music scene. It's about multiculturalism, unity, and appreciating your surroundings whilst also highlighting social issues.
London Wake Up was inspired by my close friend Eddyman, a famous Reggae engineer, drummer, and all-round Geezer from the East End. I wanted to highlight the changes in London and in his beloved area of Bethnal Green where he grew up – a place that has also become my home.
I moved from a village in South Devon to London for Jungle music, now it's my home, and like many others, I want it to keep its unique vibe and influence before we are all priced out of living here.
I decided to write and perform the vocals myself as it was the most effective way of conveying the message. Some people were hesitant to express their political thoughts on a track and found the unique 5/4 time signature challenging as it was different from what they were used to.
What's happening in London reflects broader trends happening everywhere. The most important thing is that we stay together and look after each other no matter the changes we face.
I need to say a special thank you to the amazing work of Neil Parmar who made the video and to Mary, Leila, Mathieu and Nico who edited and filmed the footage. And also to the real star of the video Piggy the Dog.
I have to thank all the incredible musicians especially Malcolm Sharp who I wrote this track with and to Beau from 10 8 7 Mastering."
